Description

The course includes basic orientation to DEICO programme, introduction to Sisu, Moodle, and library, as well as familiarizing with Thesis process by completion of several weekly assignments. Classes include group discussions and commenting on each others' assignments. The course ends with writing and presenting the first concept paper for individual Thesis project.


Learning outcomes

The course provides foundations for DEICO learning objectives: (4) have a capability to find, assess, and utilize academic research, and apply scientific theories and methods to conduct independent studies in ethically sound manner, and (6) be experienced in working and communicating in global teams with members from multiple backgrounds, be able to prepare, conduct and constructively comment presentations and papers for diverse audiences, and be able to organize teamwork practices in an effective and productive manner.

Upon completion of the course students have an overall understanding of the content and schedule of graduate studies and the thesis work, as well as basic skills to conduct literature searches, formulate research problems, and prepare presentations for academic audience. They will have completed their personal study plan.
