Description

The course comprises such topics as ”what social value is and how it is created”, “entrepreneuring individuals and organisations as creators of social value”, and “economic determinism, enterprising self and social values”. Selected practical cases are used to shed light on the role of entrepreneurial activities in fighting social ills, enacting opportunities, and creating social value. During the course, students will practice their research and presentation skills, together with critical thinking as they study and conduct group work assignments. Through reflection, the students will become more conscious about their learning processes.

Learning outcomes

The course gives the students an understanding of the role of entrepreneuring in creating social value as well as in fixing wicked local and global problems. The students will learn how social challenges can be addressed with entrepreneurial activity in various organisational contexts (commercial and social enterprises, co-operatives, public organisations, and NGOs). After the course, the students will be able to identify the main features of social value creation through entrepreneuring. They will also understand the role of individuals as change agents and value creators in complex institutional settings. The course will provide the students with skills of recognising a social problem and developing a solution that involves entrepreneurial action.
