Connection of Course Contents to UN Sustainable Development Goals

This course supports several UN Sustainable Development Goals (3 Good Health and Well-being, 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, 12 Responsible Production and Consumption, 13 Climate Action, 14 Life Below Water, and 15 Life on Land) by promoting organizational greening. Environmental managements systems adopt sustainable practices in organization to improve resource-use efficiency (water, energy, chemicals and other raw materials) and pollution control (to air, water and soil), to prevent biodiversity loss, and to minimize health and safety impacts. Organizational greening also leads to greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain social scientific concepts and theories about organisational change and the management of change and analyse factors underlying these processes
  • Demonstrate understanding of environmental management systems as tools for managing organizational greening
  • Apply concepts and theories to practical problems of organizational greening as a change process
  • Present a reflective understanding of this body of knowledge in written and spoken forms, expressed as follows: reflexive understanding of the greening process; how to produce an initial environmental review; how to plan and implement an environmental audit; how to produce documents and reports for environmental management system purposes.

Method 1

Description:
Active participation during the lectures. Compulsory attendance in the first lecture, in the company visit, during guest lectures and workshops.
Evaluation criteria:
An individual essay (40%), an individual case assignment (30%) and a pair work (30%) as well as 80% attendance requirement for the course.
