CEMJ1110 Dissertation Analysis (2 cr)
Description
This course provides students with practical examples of previously completed doctoral dissertations. These include dissertations that follow the monograph format and dissertations that are based on the article/essay format. Students are asked to analyze these dissertations through a written assignment. This assignment forms the basis for discussing with the supervisor which template the student intends to follow.
Learning outcomes
As a key learning outcome of this course, the student understands how a doctoral thesis that conforms to academic writing standards is structured and can evaluate the role of the different sections in a finished dissertation. The student recognizes that it is possible to choose between different reporting formats (e.g. a monograph vs. essay/articled-based) and can analyze which reporting format could suit their own thesis
Additional information
This course is recommended to be completed during the first year of doctoral studies.
