Working in a research group

Description

Content

Unpaid work as a member of a research team in your own institution. Each student will create more specific individual learning objectives tailored to his/her needs before starting work and this will be agreed with the work supervisor and responsible teacher. The work tasks, learning objectives and group rules are agreed in writing with the group leader. After the work, a written report is prepared. 1 month corresponds to approximately 5 credits, including a work report. The course cannot be directly linked to a thesis (degree). The course provides a good opportunity to familiarise oneself with, for example, analytical or experimental methods.

Completion methods

Before starting work, the learning objectives are agreed with the person responsible for supervision and described in the starting form. A written work report is prepared at the end of the work practice. The course can be completed in 1-5 credits. One month's work corresponds to 5 credits including the work report. A course area including the starting form and report return box is in Moodle.

After completing the course, the student:
  • is familiar with the different stages of conducting research
  • can describe the basic principles of the research conducted at in research group
  • has gained systematic and ethical working habits
  • has attained new skills which could be related to collecting, handling or analyzing the data
