Work training abroad

Description

Work training abroad acquaints students with research or planning work in the fields of biological and environmental science outside Finland. International training allows students to develop their understanding of the working life of those with the Master of Science degree in these fields. Depending of the training site, the training allows students to apply and integrate their knowledge and skills acquired during their studies. The site of training must be agreed in advance by the teacher responsible for the course. A training plan is prepared by the student in advance and a training report must be submitted at the end of the work placement.


Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student:
  • has a better picture of research and planning work in his/her field outside Finland
  • can outline the skills/knowledge  required in working life
  • has learned how to act as a motivated, committed and responsible member of the working community
  • knows the essential rights and obligations of the employee and knows the job search process
  • is able to plan and report their work
  • is able to work in an international community

5 ECTS are accepted for advanced studies. Can be substituted by course BENS5040. A maximum of 20 credits of work training in Finland or 25 credits of work training abroad may be counted towards the degree.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
5 credits are accepted for advanced studies. Can be substituted by course BENS5040 (Work training in Finland). A maximum of 20 credits of work training in Finland or 25 credits of work-training abroad may be counted towards the degree. The internship may be undertaken at any stage of the studies. Students are responsible for finding a suitable research group by contacting the group leaders or responding to open advertisements. Before starting work, the learning objectives are agreed with the supervisor and described in the work plan. At the end of the placement, a written work report will be prepared. One month's work corresponds to 5 credits including the work report.
Evaluation criteria:
Study points are awarded after the work training abroad when the training report is accepted. Training report should be submitted within a month after finishing the work training.
