  • Parasite problems, and their prevention, in aquaculture and fisheries
  • The most important viral and bacterial diseases in fish farming, and their prevention 

Learning outcomes

The student will

  • Know the main groups of aquatic parasites and their life cycles, occurrence and the harm they cause to their hosts in natural populations and in aquaculture.
  • Know the most important bacterial, viral and fungal fish diseases of fish and the problems they cause in nature and in fish farming.
  • Be able to describe the dispersal and prevention mechanisms of the afore mentioned parasites and pathogens.
  • Be able to identify and name the parasitic phyla and groups and their typical morphological structures.
  • Be able to independently perform a parasitological examination of fish, freshwater mussel etc. and identify the main parasite taxa and groups.
  • Know the principles of culture and diagnostic methods for bacterial diseases.
