Description
The course introduces students to ecotoxicology and its aims, key environmental contaminants and their sources, concepts of bioavailability and principles of toxicokinetics. The effects of contaminants from molecular to population and ecosystem level are studied, and different research methods, biomarkers, indicators introduced. The interactions between contaminants and other environmental factors are also presented.
Learning outcomes
Students can identify key environmental contaminants, describe the basics of toxicokinetics, understand how environmental chemicals influence organisms and ecosystems and familiarize themselves with research methods and principles of chemical testing.
