The course focuses on developing students’ spoken interaction skills in English in order to prepare them for communicating in group communication situations in academic contexts. The course puts a heavy emphasis on self-directed and peer learning. Students will carry out written, spoken, reading and listening tasks in order to build on their self-reflection, goal setting, vocabulary and presentation skills. Students will also be required to take part in team-based project work, the results of which will be presented at the end of the course.

Completion methods

Combination of contact teaching, independent learning and self-directed group learning.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

  • recognise their own strengths and identify development goals in order to further their skills as a communicator.
  • be able to deliver concrete feedback in a constructive way.
  • have deepened their knowledge of the tools required to improve their spoken interaction skills to the point at which they can contribute as an active member of a multicultural group.
  • have gained confidence with their English spoken interaction skills so that they can contribute to group discussions in academic contexts.

PROFICIENCY LEVEL: A2 - B2 (lower intermediate - upper intermediate)

Evaluation criteria:
Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.
