Description
The course expands knowledge of the basics of number theory based on Number Theory 1.
The course covers, for example,
- Number-theoretic functions such as Euler's function, factor sum functions and Möbius' function
- Representing whole numbers as the sum of two or more squares
- Higher order Diophantus equations such as Fermat's and Pell's equations
- Number theory of rational numbers such as Farey's sequence, Diophantus' approximation, Continued fractions
- Riemann's zeta function
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student
- knows the central questions of number theory
- masters the number theory methods and techniques discussed in the course
