Description
The course includes topics such as:
- main group chemistry (groups 1,2 and 13 - 18),
- organometallic compounds of main group elements,
- MO- and VB-theories,
- total electron density and bonding, and
- characterization methods in inorganic chemistry.
Learning outcomes
After passing the course, the student will:
- have a basic understanding of main group chemistry.
- understand the connection between electronic structure and molecular properties.
- know the basics of inorganic characterization methods and their uses in research and industry.
- understand the basics of writing scientific manuscripts.
- have gained experience in preparing and delivering scientific research presentations.
Working life skills:
- understanding the chemistry of main group elements, and the utilization of their properties both in scientific research and in industrial applications.
- delivering a scientific research presentation from relevant (applied) topic based on brief literature survey.

The course is lectured in 2021-2022. The course can be taken by book exam in 2020-2021 and 2022-2023.
Description of prerequisites
Subject studies in chemistry, especially courses KEMA2140 and KEMA2150 (Inorganic Chemistry 1 and 2).
