This course is a practical exercise. We engage in a one-day dialogue concerning a topic related to participants everyday life or work-related issues. We choose the topic together in the beginning of the course. Dialogue starts with concrete experiences and remains in contact with the concrete. Dialogue follows the approach of Nelsonian Socratic dialogue which provides it a structure and certain principles. Teacher works as a facilitator and guides the group for learning the principles. Principles of the dialogue are based on competences, for example, listening, understanding, thinking together and giving arguments. Dialogue works on many levels. It offers an experience of a conversation built on these principles and also an example of a way how these competences can be exercised. In addition dialogue is a reflective tool for gaining self-knowledge and better understanding of chosen questions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student has an advanced perception of the possibilities and limitations of the research method in question.

Preliminary homework: Write a one-page (A4) description in which you
a) tell about the stage that your research is in at the moment and
b) tell what you would like to learn in relation to your work in this course.
N.B. Course also includes a reflective homework after the dialogue. Teacher gives the instruction at the course.
