Description

The student prepares a dissertation in the field of physics within the target period of four years. The dissertation research should demonstrate a good knowledge of the discipline and an in-depth knowledge of the discipline. Research must demonstrate the ability to apply independently and critically the scientific research methods in the field. The dissertation must be a logical, publicly available, scientific presentation of a physical problem and must be defended in public.

The dissertation can be done not only as a monograph study but also as an article research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the doctoral dissertation, the student is able to apply independently and critically and in accordance with research ethical principles the methods of scientific research and to create new scientific knowledge. He/she has an in-depth knowledge of his/her field of research and is able to evaluate scientific research in the field and its significance. Postgraduate students are able to produce scientific publications and reports and present research results in accordance with scientific practice.

Evaluation criteria:
The faculty council evaluates the dissertation on the basis of the opponent's proposal. In deciding the grading, the faculty council will have available, in addition to the opponent's statement, the statements of the pre-examiners and possibly the supervisor's statement on whether the pre-examiners' corrections to the manuscript have been taken into account. The department director will provide a justification to the faculty council if the thesis is submitted with grade "pass with distinction".
