Description

The course introduces philosophical perspectives relevant for environmental and sustainability issues and explores visions of good life in the context of planetary well-being. The course explores how societal norms, cultural conceptions, and values relate to achieving sustainability and planetary well-being. Individual values, choices and responsibilities are discussed in relation to broader cultural phenomena and value discussions. The course also explores the interconnectedness of knowledge, values, and action, and discusses environmental emotions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student:

  • Recognizes the influence of cultural values and conceptions on the norms relating to environmental and sustainability issues and can reflect on these in relation to philosophical discussions.
  • Recognizes connections between knowledge, values, emotions, and action, and can consider them in public discussions and in aiming for planetary well-being.
  • Can explain how planetary well-being relates to cultural phenomena and practices, ethical standpoints, and conceptions of good life.
