The basics of aquatic environments (lakes and oceans) as habitats, of aquatic food webs, of water use and of assessment of ecological status
Description
Limnology, water optics, hydrological cycle, water chemistry, organisms and their adaptations to life in water, biodiversity, biological interactions, fishing and fisheries science, aquaculture, aquatic parasites, environmental threats in fresh waters and the Baltic Sea, developmental history of Finnish lakes and the Baltic Sea, water quality and ecological status, urban hydrology, oceanography.
Learning outcomes
Student understands basic concepts of limnology and oceanography, water chemistry and physical water properties, structure of aquatic food webs, principles of waters as an economical resource and topical environmental problems.
