  • introductions to key concepts and principles associated with democracy
  • critical consideration of the connections between different forms of education and the democracy as a lived relationship
  • examples of democractic engagement through a variety of modalities and in different contexts
  • critical reflections on democracy from and through different perspectives and experiences

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will

  • have a critical understanding of democracy
  • be able to critically consider the implications of educational practice for democratic participation
  • have an understanding of the different ways in which methodological innovations can support or undermine democratic participation and development
  • be able to critically consider the benefits and challenges of democratic participation in different contexts
