Content

This course examines language and communication within the context of globalization. Students develop knowledge and understanding of globalization theories and trends, and of the sociolinguistic impact of globalization on communication, language learning, education, and societal and cultural discourse and social practices.

Completion methods

Seminars which include case study reports, assignments, and presentations.

Assessment details

Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student will be able to
  • critically assess and synthesize how globalization impacts communication and language in the spaces of education, learning, community, work, and society
  • effectively understand how to construct, apply, and adapt theories and concepts dealing with the impact of globalization in society, work, and community
  • compare the various international, national, and local discourse practices and strategies resulting from globalization
  • critically reflect on global responsibility and ethics.
