The course focuses on memory and narrative as concepts, ethnological approaches and research sources, targets and methodologies.

Completion methods

Taught course or independent work (book exam, reading group or assignment).

Assessment criteria

80% participation in teaching and written assignments or lecture exam. Completion by independent study – essay or book exam.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will:

  • be able to explain what memory, recollection narrative and intangible cultural heritage are as concepts, approaches and tools for social criticism
  • know the task of the oral history and memory studies movements and
  • be aware of the specific questions raised by memory studies and know how to apply them
