Description

The course explores alternative ways of biomass refining to process lignocellulosic raw materials in a resource-efficient way to produce fuels, chemicals, materials and energy. Lignocellulosic raw materials will play a key role in biorefineries (bioproduct mills) using chemical, biochemical and thermochemical processes.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student has an overall understanding of the production of biofuels, chemicals and materials from biomass. The student knows the most important raw materials and products. Students will master the most important processes and technologies, and understand the importance of process integration in biorefineries for resource efficient utilization of raw materials.

Working life skills

After completing the course the student is familiar with different recovery techniques and understands their application in the recovery of different raw materials. The student is familiar with the terminology related to biomass processing and is able to discuss the subject competently. The student also understands how different products and energy are produced on a biomass basis. The student will be able to plan a presentation and stay on schedule.
