KEMJ0245 Postgraduate students' credits earned through work (1–6 cr)

Postgraduate studies may include credits earned in accordance with the University of Jyväskylä's Graduate School Policy (Structure and General Principles of the Graduate School of the University of Jyväskylä, March 23, 2011) (max. 6 ECTS, 27 h / ECTS). The work must be more demanding than the dissertation itself (teaching, research outside the dissertation, participation in the development of a department or university, work outside the university). Both teaching-related activities (courses, lectures, supervision of theses, and examination, participation in teaching development, and feedback from teaching) and other proven work experience improve employability.

The doctoral student must record in the teaching portfolio all activities and any pedagogical studies that he or she has done in relation to teaching, non-doctoral research and other work experience. Detailed instructions for applying for the course can be found on the department's website.

Doctoral students:

• Gain experience in teaching both performance and the use of different teaching and guidance methods. When teaching, they also learn to reflect more deeply about research and teaching. 
  
• Learn to receive constructive feedback on their teaching.
  
• Learn how to make posters or give scientific presentations on their own research topic, while learning how to present scientific research findings to industry experts and gaining confidence.
  
• Learn to articulate competences acquired in working life and mirror their competences with teaching at the department.
