Description

Multidisciplinary Research Seminars given in the Department by both local and invited researchers.

Learning outcomes


Students become familiar with research in the disciplines of aquatic sciences, ecology and evolutionary biology, cell and molecular biology and environmental science. In addition, students become familiar with interdisciplinary research in Nanoscience, Mathematical Biology and Sustainability research (JYU Wisdom). By participating, students learn to

  • Recognize multidisciplinary professional and scientific expertise.

  • Recognize their own expertise and knowledge.

  • Practice summarizing their knowledge

  • Practice engaging in scientific discourse

These credits are earned, for example from the departmental research seminar series; Nanoscience seminars; Wisdom Lunch colloquia, or others. Required participation in the seminar 15 times earns 1 ECTS

  • This course is required for all doctoral researchers in the Department’s Graduate programme in Biological and Environmental Science (min. 1 ECTS)

  • Students can earn a maximum of 2 ECTS in this course.

  • Participation can take place throughout the entire study period. Doctoral researchers should request that the grade is recorded at the end of their study period or when the maximum number of seminar attendances is completed.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
Participation in the seminar 15 times earns 1 ECTS. Participation is recorded in Moodle upon completion of a task that can be done while participating in the seminar. Students self-register to the Moodle each academic year.
Evaluation criteria:
Active participation in the seminar. Participation is recorded with a seminar summary task: for each seminar, students are asked to record three “take home messages” or main results presented in the seminar as well as one question regarding the seminar research and presentation.
