Basic principles of applying qualitative methods
Description
The course provides the students with basic knowledge of qualitative research methodology, the skills to collect research data, and to conduct scientific research. The course provides knowledge and skills to design and implement a small-scale research and to evaluate the quality of scientific research.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, student is able to:
- Understand the nature of scientific knowledge and the main paradigms of science
- Identify differences of quantitative and qualitative research designs
- Understand and apply basics of main qualitative study designs (e.g. case study, language-based methods, focus groups, ethnography)
- Generate a research plan and conduct data collection by applying qualitative research methodologies
- Detect and evaluate ethical issues in research
- Assess the quality of research
