KEMS5370 Chromatographic Methods (3 cr)
Description
Course concentrates on concepts related to chromatography and separation methods in organic chemistry. Operational principles of different separation techniques, structures of instruments and optimization of methods are discussed. Following thematic entities are covered: concepts, thn layer chromatography, column chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography, sample preparation and quantitative analysis.
Learning outcomes
After this course student understand concepts in chromatography and is familiar with operational principles of most common chromatographic methods. Student is familiar with principles of chromatographic method development and can choose suitable method for a preparative or analytical problem. Student knows methods for quantitative analysis and most common application fields of chromatography.
Working life skills
Student masters planning of his/her own work, tasks and scheduling. Student is able to apply and combine learned content in different context. Student can give verbal and written answers in questions and justify answers clearly. Student is able to discuss about chromatography in English.
Additional information
The course is lectured in 2021-2022. The course can be taken by self-study in 2022-2023. Please note that course cannot be taken 2020-2021.
