Description

A short written thesis included in the studies of the Bachelor of Science degree. The topics are based on interdisciplinary teaching and research at the department, and the subject of chemistry teaching in the field of chemistry learning. The purpose of the thesis is to become familiar with the literature search, the use and analysis of research material and the writing of a scientific thesis according to the thesis writing guidelines. 

Learning outcomes

After completing the Bachelor's thesis, the student will be able to write a thesis with a clear expression and master the discipline-specific reporting practices. The student is able to read scientific articles, is able to choose the most important literature sources for a research topic, is able to analyze and compile the most important research information and master the identification of literature sources. The student understands the key steps in conducting research: research question setting, literature search, data acquisition and analysis, reporting, reflection and conclusions.

Description of prerequisites

It is good to complete intermediate studies in chemistry as much as possible before you start to do Bachelor's Thesis.

Successful completion of the course requires that the thesis optain the criteria of a good competence in the following areas: subject, management of literary, scientific writing, conclusions and learning process.

Study methods:
Writing a Bachelor's Thesis and search of related literature. The Bachelor's Thesis (written and experimental part) contains about 15-20 references and about 15-25 pages. The experimental part, ie. KEMA2500 Research Project of Intermediate Studies, can be integrated into the Bachelor's thesis.


In the specialization of subject teachers of chemistry the Bachelor's Thesis is also 6 ECTS and it may include an experimental part in addition to the written part. In this case the written part contains about 10 references and about 10 pages of text. The workload of the experimental part is approximately 3 ECTS.
