Description

  • A charged particle in electric and magnetic fields, Lorentz force

  • linear ion optics, transfer matrices

  • real space and phase space (emittance, Twiss formalism)

  • cyclotron components (magnet, acceleration electrodes, injection and extraction) 

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will

  • be able to distinguish between the operation principles of classical cyclotron, synchrocyclotron and isochronous cyclotron

  • be able to determine particle beam properties using transfer matrices.
