Description

The aim of the course is to recognise and analyse the intermingledness of societal and environmental problems on a global scale. It produces capacities to promote sustainable societal development in governance and policy design. Students will also be introduced to current sustainable development initiatives, their successes and shortcomings.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students are familiar with the concept of sustainable development, it's history and dimensions. They recognise the significance of sustainable development in social science, are familiar with the critical discussion on sustainable development and the shortcomings of sustainable development approaches. They are understand the particularities of sustainable development within the wider fields of development policy and governance.
