Let’s learn to speak some Dutch together (CEFR- A1). Both Finnish and exchange students are welcome to try out this new language.

Description

This course is for beginners in Dutch. Both Finnish and exchange students are welcome. Finnish languages skills are not needed. In this course, learners will develop their language skills while also exploring Dutch and Belgian culture. We will also discuss life at university for those who plan to go on an exchange to a Dutch speaking country.

This course focuses on using language for communication by training all 5 basic language skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing, and cultural awareness. During the course some lessons will be taught according to the ‘Flipping the classroom’-principle: students will be expected to prepare for some lessons watching videos online in which theory (grammar for example) is explained. During the next lesson this theory will be put into practice by in class discussions and in class individual and group assignments. When in class, learners are expected to actively participate and engage in coursework.

By the end of the course, students are expected to:

be able to introduce themselves, including information about who they are and where they live, as well as information about their interests and feelings

be able to ask and answer simple questions about themselves, their immediate needs, and very familiar topics;
