Description

The General English 1 course is for those Integra programme students who have an elementary level in the English language and need to develop their Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) in English to be able to manage a variety of common social and professional situations with a greater degree of fluency. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will have developed:

- Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) to at least an A2 level

- skills to prepare and deliver a presentation about a familiar topic related to their studies

-  skills to write descriptive and narrative text types on a familiar topic related to their academic and professional lives

- skills to use tools such as dictionaries or online translators to produce language accurately

- different learning techniques to organize and advance in their learning

- the ability to use the languages in their linguistic repertoire as a tool for negotiating meaning

- have developed an understanding of how learning English is relevant in the Finnish context
