Description

The General English 2 course is for those Integra programme students who already have a firm basis in the English language but still need to continue developing their Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) in English to help prepare them for the academic level. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will have developed:

-Language and critical thinking skills to convey main ideas within their own field of interest or expertise

-Skills to prepare and deliver a presentation about a familiar issue related to their field of interest, and to give constructive feedback

-Skills in managing and partaking in group discussions

-Skills to write short expository and argumentative texts

-Critical thinking skills to search for relevant, up-to-date information on their field of interest using trustworthy sources

-Different learning techniques to organise and advance in their learning

-The ability to use the languages in their linguistic repertoire as a tool for negotiating meaning

-An understanding of how learning English is relevant in the Finnish context
