Content

The course is tailored for students in the CEM Master’s programme and is integrated with CEMS2110 Sustainable Transition and Business. The focus is on academic literacies required for studying issues related to sustainability transition and business. All course assignments are integrated with or linked to the assignments in the subject course and support the development of students’ academic and professional communication and interactional competence in disciplinary contexts. Key themes include information search and management, critical thinking in academic reading and writing, general academic and discipline-specific writing conventions and academic integrity, academic writing as a process, academic presentations, constructive feedback, critical reflection, and working in culturally diverse teams.

Regular attendance, active participation, successful completion of core assignments. 

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students are expected to…

· know the most common types of sources and the most influential academic journals in their field

· be able to find relevant and reliable sources

· have developed strategies for critical reading and synthesis

· know how to accurately and ethically integrate sources into their own work to support their own argument

· have adopted a process-based approach to academic writing

· know the basic elements of a successful academic presentation

· communicate and interact appropriately and effectively in culturally diverse teams

· know how to provide constructive feedback and engage in critical reflection

Additional information

The course is compulsory for first-year students of CEM.

The course can only be taken by students in the CEM master's degree programme.

Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.
