Description

Communicating effectively with the general public has a variety of benefits for researchers, yet finding effective ways to interact with audiences outside academia is often deemed challenging. New platforms and genres require different rhetorical strategies to recontextualize information. This course thus aims to provide support for participants who wish to diversify their writing practices and maximize the impact of their own research by creating new academic identities through academic blogging. Students will develop a personal plan to popularize their own research.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, participants are expected to…

  • understand the role of research popularization in shaping academic identities and practices
  • know the difference between communicating through traditional channels of scholarly communication as opposed to academic blogs
  • be aware of rhetorical strategies when recontextualizing academic texts for academic blogs with a view to enhancing interaction
