Description
This course provides practical support for participants who are in the process of planning the compilation section of their own dissertation by offering general guidelines and useful tips for the various sections at different stages of the writing process. Participants will also have the opportunity to examine dissertations published in their field by focusing on structural characteristics and (visual) design, e.g. front cover illustrations, tables and figures.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, participants are expected to…
- be aware of the general and article-based dissertation requirements of the University of Jyväskylä and any additional, faculty-specific requirements
- understand the different stages of the process of writing an article-based dissertation
- be aware of the basic structure of the compilation section as well as possible variations within their respective fields of inquiry.
- demonstrate purposeful application of the principles and strategies covered in class when planning to write the compilation section of their own dissertation

Evaluation criteria:
PASS-FAIL: Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the corresponding grading scale for the course.
