Description
Contents of the course: Data, variables and measurements. Description of data (for one variable and two variables) using statistics of location, variation and dependence. The basics of probability calculation. Theoretical probability distributions.
Learning outcomes
A student, who passes the course successfully,
- knows the most important statistics for location and variation, and how apply them with respect to the data,
- knows how to describe dependence of discrete and continuous pairs of variables (cross-tabulation and correlation),
- is able to do basic probability calculations,
- knows the probability concepts conditional probability and independence, and
- is familiar with the most important discrete and continuous theoretical distributions and is able to calculate simple probabilities based on these distributions.
