Description

Basic lab procedures and sample handling. Muscle sample microscopy. Gene and protein expression in muscle.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student:

  • is familiar with muscle sample handling and basics of pipetting 

  • learns fundamentals of cell and molecular biology research methods

  • learns basic principles of tissue-level protein and messenger-RNA analysis methodology

  • can explain sample preparation for various analysis methods 

  • understands key omics-methodology

  • is able to perform key methodologies under instruction in future where required 

  • can describe strength and weaknesses of different methods and knows methodological factors influencing results

  • can apply gained methodological knowledge to physical activity and exercise physiology

  • learns to work as a responsible member of the research team
