The course "Trends in Cyber Security" aims to provide knowledge, introduce key themes and basic concepts from the information security discipline. The course is theme-based, and each week we will cover a different theme, such as, cyber-bullying, cyber-disinformation, cyber-scamming, etc. Students will be expected to attend/watch lectures, undertake the assignments, and read from the key texts recommended for the course.
Completion methods
The course contains lectures, case exercises, quizzes, presentations, and then a final exam. To complete the course the students need to:
- Attend/watch the lectures;
- Complete the online quizzes and case study;
- Complete final examination.
Assessment details
Online quizzes & case presentation (50%) + final exam (50%)
Learning outcomes
This course complements the Information Security Management course (TJTSM51) by studying contemporary cyber security threats that are not directly targeting the organization's information assets. The students will develop both theoretical and practical understanding of the techniques used in the selected cyber security topics. The students will gain knowledge and understanding of key countermeasures that could make cyberspace a safer environment.
Description of prerequisites
This course assumes that you have already completed your bachelor’s studies and you are currently doing your master’s or doctoral studies. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended you have already completed the Information Security Management course (TJTSM51).

Study materials will be a combination of academic articles and other materials available online, including, industry reports, news articles, and online videos.
