Philosophy of Science

Description

The course "philosophy of science" discusses fundamental questions on the nature of science and scientific research. These includes questions of what characterises scientific knowledge, and how scientific research is distinctive from other forms of inquiries.

Topics include the nature of the scientific knowledge, the nature of scientific theory, the nature of scientific methods, and the differences between natural and social sciences.

Learning outcomes

This course enables students to understand some central debates and issues in the philosophy of science. Through understanding basic concepts used in (the philosophy of) science, students are able to have a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of scientific research and its limits.
