IHMJ3106 Etnographic Research in Online Settings (3–5 cr)
Description
Applying the insights, methods, and perspectives of ethnography to the virtual world issues is a delightful challenge for researchers interested in online communities of our information age. This presentation depicts traditional ethnographic research methodology and how it is applied to online settings. Specific viewpoints on ethnography are traditional Ethnography, Media Ethnography and Online ethnography. The course assignment concerns the actual research tasks that the participants work with. Participants are expected to accomplish a pre-course assignment and answer to these questions: 1. What do you already know about ethnography?, 2. What would you like to learn in this course, and 3. What kind of ethnographic research you plan to conduct?.
