Curriculum periods:
2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023

Description

Students will learn basic techniques in molecular microbiology through working in the laboratory. Students will learn principle techniques of recombinant-DNA -technology including DNA extraction, PCR, cloning and sequencing. Students will also learn to compare their obtained data to sequence databanks. Students participate in lectures and prepare a seminar to describe the different methods used in the laboratory to their classmates.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student

  • has basic skills to perform DNA-techniques in practice.
  • understands steps in recombinant-DNA techniques, and the relevance of positive and negative control reactions.
  • has basic knowledge on Sanger sequencing, sequence data analysis and bioinformatic search.
  • knows the general practices in writing lab book and lab reports.
