Description

Content

On the numerical solution of large and sparse systems of linear algebraic equations using direct methods and Krylov subspace methods. On the numerical solution of the algebraic eigenvalue problem. On singular value decomposition and its applications.

Completion methods

Self-studying using e-materials. Final exam or some alternative with prior agreement with the lecturer.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student can name the most common numerical methods for the solution of linear systems and algebraic eigenvalue problems. The student also knows the main theory behind the methods. The student can implement the basic methods using Matlab e.g.
