Content
Classical sociologists have laid the basis for the sociological understanding of society and related research strategies. The course familiarizes students with the works of the classical sociologists and the specific characteristics of their theories.
Completion methods
Book examination or written assignment. The course can also be partially completed by attending a lecture or a reading group. In these matters be in contact with the lecturer of the course.
Assessment details
The evaluation is based on the quality of the book exam or written assignment or participation in lectures/ reading circuit.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course the student is able to:
- Evaluate the significance of the key sociological classics: the basic structures of their theories, concepts and methodologies.
- Recognize the influence of the classics in contemporary sociological theory and related discussions.
- Situate her/his own empirical research in relation to the classics and utilize the classics in critically evaluating own work.
