Content
This course provides an introduction to scientific thinking, different phases of the research process and methodologies in applied language studies.
Completion methods
Contact teaching (group meetings and discussions), independent study (readings, writing assignments)
Assessment details
Active participation (students must participate to at least 80 % of the meetings), research plan for an MA thesis
More detailed assessment criteria will be provided in the first meeting of the course.

After completing the course the student
- is familiar with the phases of the research process
- has both theoretical and practical understanding of different methodologies in applied language studies
- understands ethical principles concerning research in applied language studies
- is able to independently search for further literature on various methodologies
- has revised her/his research plan for the MA thesis based on the insights and tools acquired in the course
