Mark 5: the student is able to describe exhaustively the phenomena, illustrating the account by means of concrete examples, and fully grasps the causes and consequences as well as the importance of the phenomena in the larger context.
Mark 4: the student is able to describe the central phenomena, illustrating the account by means of concrete examples. One or two factual mistakes occur. The student grasps to a high degree the causes and consequences as well as the importance of the phenomena in the larger context.
Mark 3: the student is able to describe the central phenomena, illustrating the account by means of a few concrete examples. Some factual mistakes occur. The student grasps the main causes and consequences as well and is able to put them into a larger context.
Mark 2: the student is able to describe most of the central phenomena, illustrating the account by means of a few concrete examples. Factual mistakes occur. Some of the main causes and consequences are accounted for but their place in a larger context is only sketched.
Mark 1: the student describes some phenomena, illustrating them by means of concrete examples. The number of factual mistakes is rather high. Some of the main causes and consequences of phenomena are presented, but they are hardly put into a larger context.
Mark 0: some phenomena are sketched but no concrete examples are presented. The number of factual mistakes is high. No causes. consequences nor contextualisation are presented.

Learning outcomes

The course provides the student with the following:
- familiarity with one sub-field of Romance philology, e.g. rhetoric, Romance sociolinguistics, book history
- ability to present the chosen field in writing.

- the ability to rapidly assimilate the basics of a previously unfamiliar field
