Description
Content
The chemistry of cellulose manufacturing methods and their by-products. Basics of papermaking chemistry. An overview of producing cellulose derivatives.
Completion methods
Exam (to be organized annually four times)
Assessment details
Typically as follows: grade 0 <35 %, 1 35-45 %, 2 45-55 %, 3 55-65 %, 4 65-75 % ja 5 >75 % of the maximum points (depends on the degree of exam difficulty)
Learning outcomes
The student understands the detailed chemistry of various methods for producing cellulose fiber (chemical delignification, recovery of cooking chemicals, mechanical pulping, and bleaching) as well as the utilization of by-products obtained from these methods. The student also masters the principles in papermaking and knows the role of papermaking chemicals. In addition, the student can outline the industrial production of the main types of cellulose derivatives.
Description of prerequisites
