Content
The course concentrates on basic concepts of organic and nanomaterial chemistry. Basics of polymer chemistry. Gels, liquid crystals, self-assembling monolayers and surfaces. Introduction to concepts of material chemistry: composites, nanocomposites, nanoparticles, hybrid and functional materials, porous materials, biomaterials. Material synthesis, characterization and applications in medicine, optics, electrical chemistry, molecular electronics and coatings.

Assessment details
The course grading is based on course activity and learning outcomes achieved. Grade 1 equals for 50 % of maximum points.
Grade 1: Student knows the basic principles material chemistry.
Grade 2: Student knows the basic principles and concepts of material chemistry.
Grade 3: Student knows the basic principles, concepts and theory of material chemistry and is able to analyse the properties and applicability of typical material examples.
Grade 4: Student understands the principles, concepts and theory of material chemistry and is able to analyse the properties and applicability of typical material examples for various applications.
Grade 5: Student understands deeply the principles, concepts and theory of material chemistry and is able to deeply analyse the properties and applicability of materials for various applications.
