Study level:
Advanced studies
Grading scale:
0-5
Language:
Finnish
Responsible organisation:
Department of Chemistry
Curriculum periods:
2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020
Description
Content
Course focuses on:
- theoretical basis of thermal analysis methods including thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis and hyphenated techniques
- instrumentation of above methods on tehcnical level
- analysis examples
- interpretation of analysis data
Completion methods
Exercises, instrument demonstration, seminar presentation and final exam at the end of the course (the course is lectured in Finnish), or book exam when course is on pause.
Assessment details
Final exam with a maximum of 24 points. Lowest passed grade (1/5) requires 50% of the points.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing the course, the student:
- is familiar with the theoretical basis of thermogravimetry (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and analysis techniques related to them,
- understands the existence of various sample and instrument originating parameters that may effect to measuring conditions,
- understands how the above parameters may influence to the quality and accuracy of the recorded data, and realize how these parameters should be controlled in order to acquire good quality data
- understands the basics of interpreting both TG and DSC data
