Content

A seminar where students bring current questions in the society which need attention by scientists with ecological or biological science background. Seminars and external experts lecturing on invited topics and science writing target the key question if and how natural scientists should take part in political debate in the society. Intensive course at Konnevesi Research Station provides tools for science-based writing on important societal questions and produces opinion letters published in a newspaper.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course the student:
- recognizes the value of the expertise the student has gained during his/her studies and how to apply it to important societal and political questions
- understands the importance of science-based opinions and influence in the society
- is able to use his/her science background in writing popular scientific opinion letters
