Description

Content

Identification of organisms is practiced in different habitat types focusing on typical flora and fauna (especially invertebrates, plants and fungi). Identification of different habitat types is rehearsed during different season than in the previous course. Particular focus in inventories is on peatlands and aquatic ecosystems. The student groups can focus on their own habitats according to their own field of specialization after the common part of the course.

Completion methods

Compulsory attendance at the classes, accepted assignments as well as preparation of a written report and an oral presentation.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student is able to identify and describe the main habitat types (forests, peatlands and aquatic habitats) and their typical biota regardless of the season. The student is able to identify the most common Finnish mushroom genera and the most important species with the help of literature. The student can also be critical for the identification and has an ability to assess the reliability of the identification.
