Content

The course focuses on developing students’ spoken interaction skills in English in order to prepare them for communicating in group communication situations in academic contexts. The course puts a heavy emphasis on self-directed and peer learning. Students will carry out written, spoken, reading and listening tasks in order to build on their self-reflection, goal setting, vocabulary and presentation skills. Students will also be required to take part in team-based project work, the results of which will be presented at the end of the course.

Completion methods

Combination of contact teaching, independent learning and self-directed group learning.

Assessment details

Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:
- recognise their own strengths and identify development goals in order to further their skills as a communicator.
- able to deliver concrete feedback in a constructive way.
- have deepened their knowledge of the tools required to improve their spoken interaction skills to the point at which they can contribute as an active member of a multicultural group.
- have gained confidence with their English spoken interaction skills so that they can contribute to group discussions in academic contexts.
