Content
The conference abstract module is intended for doctoral students. The focus of this module is on developing research writing needed for scientific conferences. Participants will submit a conference abstract and will participate in an abstract session, whereby abstracts are reviewed and recommendations made. Participants will then resubmit their revised abstracts for publication on the conference website.
Completion methods
Two scheduled meetings; full participation on both days is required for credits.
Assessment details
Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module participants are expected to:
- identify the properties of highly-rated abstracts
- demonstrate the use of appropriate structural moves in abstract writing
- appropriately structure a conference abstract following expected structural moves
- use language effectively to “sell” their research to the proposals committee and to the conference participants
