Content

The course focuses on natural environmental changes in lakes after the last glacial period, long-term human induced environmental changes, lake sediment archives, environmental change modelling and biological and biochemical research methods on sediments, dissolved organic matter and plankton.

Lectures, field and laboratory work, written research report and oral presentation.

Learning outcomes

Student understands the characters of natural and human induced long-term environmental change and research methods to study past environmental change and is able to assess long-term limnological changes and their impact on productivity, optics and food web structure and functioning. Student knows the principal concepts and characters of paleolimnology and environmental change research and is able to implement a simple study on the theme.
